It is important to have the electric wiring in your home tested, ensuring that the instalation is still safe to use.

 

Landlords have a legal responsibility to ensure that electrics in their properties and any electrical items supplied (Fridge, washing machine,etc.) are safe to use. Why should I use a Competent Person?            

Part P of the building regulations has been introduced to protect the consumer to reduce the number of deaths, injuries and fires caused by faulty electrical installations.

Using a ‘competent person’ ensures that:
  • You do not have to pay Building Control charges
  • You have the option of taking out an insurance-backed guarantee for the work
  • You have access to a formal complaints procedure if you are not happy with the work

Failing to comply with the Building Regulations is an offence and may cause you difficulty in selling or letting your property if you do not own the correct certificates. Also your local authority's Building Control Depatrment may insist that you put right any faulty work. If you decide to use a firm that has not registered as a Competent Person you must inform your local Building Control office prior to any work starting and arrange for it to be inspected and certified by your local authoritys Building Control office.
